Overview of Role & ResponsibilitIes
As a social media strategy intern for the 151st Derby, I had the opportunity to do a little bit of everything and fully immerse myself behind the scenes of one of the most iconic sporting events in the world. I contributed to content creation across platforms and was trusted as an active publisher for the official Churchill Downs Pinterest account during Derby week, helping to showcase the brand’s personality and expand its digital footprint.
For the 150th Kentucky Derby, I served as the official event photographer, responsible for capturing the energy, elegance, and tradition of this prestigious event. My work included photographing key moments from pre-race festivities and behind-the-scenes action to the race itself and post-race celebrations while delivering high-quality visuals that reflected the glamour and heritage of the Derby.
Throughout both experiences, I collaborated closely with event organizers and media teams to ensure creative alignment and brand consistency across platforms. I also took ownership of images and file delivery workflows under tight deadlines.
When my photography mentor was unexpectedly injured on the second day of the Derby 150, I quickly stepped up, navigating high-pressure situations independently and adapting to the demands of a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. These experiences sharpened my creative instincts, critical thinking, and resilience, and deepened my understanding of large-scale brand storytelling across visual and digital channels.
